Welcome to Year 6 General Subjects!

This course provides students with opportunities to explore and understand the world around them, their community, environment, culture and society. Through practical activities, discussions, investigations and projects, students will develop knowledge, curiosity and critical-thinking skills.

The course encourages students to become responsible, informed and active learners who can connect classroom learning with everyday life.

🔢 Year 6 Mathematics – Course Description

Welcome to Year 6 Mathematics!

This course is designed to develop students’ mathematical knowledge, understanding and confidence through practical, meaningful and challenging learning experiences. Students will learn to think mathematically, solve problems, explain their reasoning and apply mathematical skills to real-life situations.

Throughout the course, students will explore important mathematical concepts and develop the skills needed for successful learning in Year 6 and beyond.

Students will develop skills in:

• 🔢 Number and Place Value – understanding whole numbers, decimals, fractions, factors, multiples and mathematical relationships.

• ➕ Operations and Calculation – applying addition, subtraction, multiplication and division accurately and efficiently.

• 🧮 Fractions, Decimals and Percentages – understanding the relationships between fractions, decimals and percentages and applying them to problems.

• 📐 Measurement – working with length, mass, capacity, time, area, perimeter and volume using appropriate units.

• 📏 Geometry – identifying, describing and classifying shapes, angles, lines and geometric properties.

• 📊 Data and Statistics – collecting, representing, interpreting and analysing data using tables, graphs and charts.

• 💰 Money and Financial Mathematics – applying mathematical skills to everyday situations involving money, prices, budgeting and calculations.

📚 Year 6 English – Course Description

Welcome to Year 6 English!

This course is designed to develop students’ confidence and ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate effectively in English. Through a range of engaging lessons and activities, students will strengthen their language skills and develop the ability to use English accurately and creatively in different situations.

Students will explore a variety of stories, texts, poems, informational materials and other forms of communication. They will develop reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, sentence construction and writing skills.

Students will develop skills in:

• 📖 Reading and Comprehension – reading different texts, identifying key ideas, understanding details and making connections.

• ✍️ Writing – developing clear, well-structured and creative writing for different purposes and audiences.
